As a young girl I would spend many summers at my grandmother’s house. I loved spending time with her and just being there brought me comfort. Some of my fondest childhood memories took place at her house.
One of the neighbors was a girl about my age named Jill. I don’t remember how we met but we became fast friends. I would have breakfast with Grandma and then quickly hop down the block to see her. I didn’t realize how much time I was spending with her and how little time I was spending with my grandmother. But my sweet and savory grandmother knew.
One morning I went into the kitchen and asked what we were doing for the day. She looked at me and asked “Are you asking for yourself or will your shadow be joining you?” I remember being defensive and made some sort of ugly remark. However, instead of getting angry Grandma just patted me on the shoulder and smiled. I knew my grandmother loved me. Looking back now I see the precious time I lost with her and of course I was a child and hadn’t meant to hurt her. Now that she’s gone I wish I could go back and just soak in the days with her again. I wish I could wrap myself in the sweet blessing she was to me.
This feeling of longing to be with someone you love is what our Heavenly Father feels for us .
“Therefore Adonai is longing to be gracious to you. Thus He will be exalted, so He may have mercy on you. For Adonai is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him.”
Isaiah 30:18 TLV
God wants to bless us. He longs to be gracious to us. He is merciful. We may ignore Him for a time and even get angry. But our God just pats us on the shoulder and smiles. We know our Heavenly Father loves us. If you have been spending more time with the world than God you may look back and realize you have lost precious time with Him.
Spend time with God today.
