Trusting God When Fortitude Fails You

Finding Peace in the Presence of God

Snow Days

I live in a state that does not get an abundance of snow, so if we do, it’s a big deal. Many of us remember snow days. School kids hope for those magical spontaneous days with no school and of course snow! Snow is naturally beautiful but on those days it falls like kisses from heaven. As a mom I recall watching for the announcement with the kids. It was just three powerful words; school is closed! I treasured those impromptu moments. Those special unplanned days that gave me extra time with my children. Of course the kids were just happy to have a day off of school, and it seems we always made cookies. As we know sometimes with unexpected joy comes unexpected sadness. It usually didn’t take long before the fun of playing in the snow led to someone getting hit in the face with a snowball. Or someone crushing someone else’s snowman. These memories of sweetness mixed with a little saltiness reminds me how fickle we can be.

We may start our days signing our Hallelujah’s and marveling at God’s creation until someone tracks that pristine snow mixed with mud right into the living room. Just seconds ago we were singing praises and now we’re muttering unsavory words under our breath. But these frustrations go away quickly once your little mud-tracker helps you clean and then snuggles up your arms.

In the Bible, God offers us the opportunity to clean up.

”“Come now, let us reason together,” says Adonai. “Though your sins be like scarlet, they will be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they will become like wool.
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭1‬:‭18‬ ‭TLV‬‬
What a blessing for us that God never changes. He does not love us according to our behaviors. He wants us to see that even though we are not perfect- He Is. He told us we have the opportunity to be cleansed of our sins.

If your past or current bad behaviors are putting distance between you and God; just let Him reason with you. There is so no sin that cannot be cleansed and forgiven except the rejection of Christ.

Next time you see the snow let it be a reminder of how much your Heavenly Father loves you.

About Me

I love God who loves me. I am a wife and mother. I have spent most of my life keeping God at a distance. Of course He was always right here with me. In a world where we may feel we can never measure up, God tells us “we are fearfully and wonderfully made”. I had so much guilt and shame that I developed from a childhood experience. Because of my guilt and shame I often felt unworthy and sinful. I often tried to do the “ right thing”, but I found it easier to just accept who I thought I was and would always be. Giving my life to Jesus gave me freedom but I held on to my old beliefs far too long. I hope to encourage others to seek God in all things and trust in Him and not the world.
