Have you ever experienced a time when life just felt good? All doors were opened to you, people around you were just as excited to see you as you were to see them. It was a great feeling going through that next door while others patted you on the back. But soon you realized that door wasn’t leading you into greater things but instead circling you back. Those smiling faces now looked like jeers, the kind words sounded like back-handed compliments, and those pats felt like pushes. What you thought was a great opportunity was really deception dressed up to look like it. You were left feeling a little slighted and now the only door you’re looking for is the exit. If we ruminate over what happened long enough our hurt can turn to anger and we want to show them the exit door.
Whether we have been caught off guard or outright lied to, our reaction to “them” should always be to give it over to God. And while this isn’t easy, especially for someone who is quick to respond in a passionate manner, it is best to look to the perfect role model.
We need to look at Jesus.
”When He was abused, He did not return the abuse. While suffering, He made no threats. Instead, He kept entrusting Himself to the One who judges righteously.“
1 Peter 2:23 TLV
Jesus suffered unimaginable pain at the cross, but even during His ministry He was insulted, laughed at and disrespected. He always trusted His Father. Our Heavenly Father.
Angry retaliation may feel good for a little while, but God’s judgement sustains us for eternity.
When you fell slighted-turn to God to be righted.
”To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Adonai than sacrifice.“
Proverbs 21:3 TLV
