When the World Gives You Lemons – Give Them Back

We have all heard the saying “When the world gives you lemons make lemonade.” Have you ever felt like you’re getting so many lemons that if you continue to make lemonade, someone’s going to have to build an ark?

I’ve had some challenging times lately and someone said that to me. My first thought was if I get another lemon I’m throwing it at someone. I don’t need lemonade. The lemonade made from my troubles would be awful. This lemonade would be sour and burn your throat as you drink it.

As I wallowed in my sadness, I asked God to give me anything but lemons. I’ll take any other fruit, it doesn’t even have to be fruit, I’ll take a vegetable. Just anything but lemons.

I realized I had to stop focusing on my problems and broken heart and be open to help others who too are broken. I knew I couldn’t change my circumstances and maybe I can’t get change theirs, but I could still offer some kindness and encouragement.

The Bible tells us to be encouraged so we can encourage others.

“He encourages us in every trouble, so that we may be able to encourage those who are in any trouble, through the very encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged by God.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭4‬ ‭TLV‬‬

When our focus is on helping someone else, it takes the focus off of our pain. If you feel like your life is out of control remember it’s not out of God’s control. God sees our sadness and struggles and He is always with us. He is encouraging us to encourage others who may be hurting just like us.

If you have enough lemons to open a lemonade stand, then share that citrus. Just remember to make the lemonade extra sweet and maybe even throw in some strawberries. Give those lemons back to the world with love, then those lemons will yield a good return.

❤️

“For if you confess with your mouth that Yeshua is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬ ‭TLV‬‬

About Me

I love God who loves me. I am a wife and mother. I have spent most of my life keeping God at a distance. Of course He was always right here with me. In a world where we may feel we can never measure up, God tells us “we are fearfully and wonderfully made”. I had so much guilt and shame that I developed from a childhood experience. Because of my guilt and shame I often felt unworthy and sinful. I often tried to do the “ right thing”, but I found it easier to just accept who I thought I was and would always be. Giving my life to Jesus gave me freedom but I held on to my old beliefs far too long. I hope to encourage others to seek God in all things and trust in Him and not the world.
