Trusting God When Fortitude Fails You

Finding Peace in the Presence of God

“Do not love the world or the things of the world. If someone loves the world, then love for the Father is not in him; because all the things of the world-the desires of the old nature, the desires of the eyes, and the pretensions of life-are not from the Father but from the world.” 1 John 2:15-16

These verses will call most of us out if we’re honest with ourselves. It is hard not to get caught up in the world. Even if we are not arrogant we may still struggle with trying to prove our worth in the eyes of others. In our current society we often feel judged. About everything. Our looks, our income, our lifestyle, our parenting, our education, our social awareness, our homes, our cars, our food choices, etc. The list goes on and on. Sadly even the most confident person can find themselves caving to the pressure of judgement. This pressure often leads to disappointment.

This judgement is a tool of the enemy. If satan can make us feel unworthy, unlikeable, or even just mediocre, he can use it to his advantage. We cannot open this door of dissatisfaction to him. He will walk in and bring his evil friends with him. We can suddenly find ourselves trying to be more like the world to fit in.

If we keep our eyes on our Heavenly Father we can maneuver the world’s temptations. If we keep ourselves grounded in a firm foundation of Christ it is easier to look at the world, enjoy the world but not be of the world. Jesus came to give us an abundant life that doesn’t need worldly indulgence. I need to remind myself sometimes that the worldly things I desire are not always good for me.

Read your Bible and let God remind you just how wonderful you are. Let God’s Word remind you how much He loves you. It will be easier to love yourself and others and not feel the pressure to be worldly. The world can only offer you time on earth; God offers us an eternity!

About Me

I love God who loves me. I am a wife and mother. I have spent most of my life keeping God at a distance. Of course He was always right here with me. In a world where we may feel we can never measure up, God tells us “we are fearfully and wonderfully made”. I had so much guilt and shame that I developed from a childhood experience. Because of my guilt and shame I often felt unworthy and sinful. I often tried to do the “ right thing”, but I found it easier to just accept who I thought I was and would always be. Giving my life to Jesus gave me freedom but I held on to my old beliefs far too long. I hope to encourage others to seek God in all things and trust in Him and not the world.
